The head of the AFP’s unified command in the Province of Palawan visited the Malampaya Deep-water Gas Field and the West Philippine Sea (WPS) recently, on board on a fighter aircraft.
In a post of Tactical Operations Wing West (TOW-WEST), formerly known as the 570th Composite Tactical Wing, of the Philippine Airforce (PAF) on their facebook page last May 6, it says that Wescom Commander, VAdm. Rene Medina once again visited the Antonio Bautista Air Base (ABAB) for an Observation Flight over the Malampaya and parts of WPS.
“The Flight is intended for the appreciation of Wescom’s leadership with the conduct of Maritime Patrolling utilizing fighter aircraft,” the said post reads.
VAdm. Medina was welcomed by the key officials of the TOW WEST, led by its Wing Commander, Col. Gerry Felizardo Soliven upon his arrival at TOG-7 Military Ramp, and afterwards was ushered at the TOG-7 VIP Lounge for the flight briefing.
For about one and a half hours, ComWescom flew towards the Malampaya Gas-to-power Project and areas of West Philippine Sea, on board an AS-211 aircraft with pilot, Cpt. Eddie Galiste, the pilot-in-command.
Medina said that, that was his first experience to ride on a fighter aircraft in his entire military career and he thanked the leadership of the Philippine Airforce for that opportunity.
