The City Government of Puerto Princesa has urged the public and barangay officials to de-clog their waterways to maximize the functions of existing drainage canals, that will help prevent or minimize flooding during heavy downpour of rain.
In a statement, the Office of the City Mayor, through Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron has reminded the public to maintain cleanliness in their respective localities and initiate declogging operations. He also said that some offices of the city government such as City Engineering Department and Oplan Linis Program and City Solid Waste Management Program, both programs under the Office of the Mayor, have their regular maintenance activities.
“Muli ring pinapaalalahan ang publiko at mga barangay officials na sana’y panatilihing malinis at paigtingin ang declogging operations sa kanilang mga waterways, para ma-maximize ang function ng mga existing na canals or drainage systems. Ang CGPP, through the Office of the City Engineer, Oplan Linis, or Solid Waste Management, ay patuloy lang rin naman ang pagsasagawa ng regular maintenance efforts tungkol dito,” the City Mayor’s Office said in a statement.
Waterways and creeks should be unclogged to prevent flooding, protect ecosystems, and ensure proper water flow for various uses. Clogged waterways, often due to trash and debris, can lead to increased flood risks, damage to property and infrastructure.
On Saturday, July 5, 2025, the Barangay Local Government Unit of San Miguel through the initiative of Punong Barangay Prince Russel Gloriani de-clogged drainage canals in Bougainvillea Street Purok Masaya.
