There is no new coronavirus disease 2019 case reported in Palawan as of April 1, 2020. The only reported COVID-19 positive case was that of the 26-year old Australian, who was no longer in the locality.
The 14-day period has already lapsed since the Australian tourist who was tested positive of COVID-19 left Puerto Princesa City on March 17, 2020.
During the meeting called by Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron to all punong barangays in the city, he explained that if there will be no PUM nor PUI tested positive of COVID-19, it means that the lone positive case in Puerto Princesa City has not transmitted the disease to persons who have close contact with him. He further explained that to make it really sure, they will continuously monitor until April 8.
If by April 8, 2020, there are no reported COVID-19 cases in Palawan, therefore, there was no infection and transmission of the contagious disease from the Australian tourist.
“Medyo luluwag na ang pakiramdam natin na wala syang nahawaan kasi March 31 na, umalis yung Australyano nung March 17 pa. Pero maliban sa March 31 ay magbigay pa tayo ng another one week. Pag-April 8 na at wala pang nahawaan. Nakalampas tayo sa problema na binigay sa Australyano na yan,” Mayor Bayron said.
He said that when the Department of Health (DOH) and the City Government of Puerto Princesa announced on March 21, 2020, the lone COVID-19 positive case in Palawan involving an Australian tourist, it caused anxieties and fears to the entire Palawan, particularly those who have close contact with the tourist.
Few days later, the Australian while already in his home country, has recovered from COVID-19 and his succeeding test already yielded negative result.
