The Provincial Government of Palawan, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), is actively bolstering its assistance programs for more than 8,000 solo parents across the province. This initiative aims to address the unique needs and rights of solo parents, ensuring they have access to essential support and resources.

As part of this effort, PSWDO staff conduct regular orientations on the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (RA 11861), offering technical guidance on the law’s provisions.

Solo parents also receive valuable psychosocial support, stress management training, and parenting workshops to help them navigate the challenges of single parenting.

PSWD Officer Abigail D. Ablaña emphasized the significance of recent amendments to the solo parents’ law, which broaden the benefits available to them and their families.

“These amendments were designed to expand the assistance provided to solo parents, not just for their own well-being but for their families as well. At PSWDO, we are committed to continuous participation in capacity-building activities by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the national level. We cascade this training to our municipal LGUs and partner with various provincial and non-government agencies,” Ablaña said.
Through these efforts, Palawan’s solo parents are not only receiving immediate support but are also empowered with the tools they need to build a sustainable future for their families.
