In celebration of National Women’s Day, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PROVET) under the leadership of Dr. Darius P. Mangcucang actively participated in an event organized by the Provincial Gender and Development (GAD) Office. The event, held on March 8, at the provincial capitol, featured a program aimed at promoting both women’s empowerment and animal welfare.

A total of ninety-three (93) dogs and cats owned by provincial government employees received anti-rabies vaccinations, castration services, and complimentary vitamins during the event titled “Kalinga sa Alagang Hayop ni Juana” (Care for Juan’s Pets).

The PROVET’s initiative aims to ensure the safety of Palaweños against rabies transmitted through dog and cat bites, while also disseminating information on proper pet care practices.

Currently, free vaccination services are being conducted in various municipalities as part of efforts to make Palawan rabies-free. Additionally, the PROVET collaborated with the Bureau of Fire Protection Palawan, BFP Puerto Princesa, and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to provide vital information on animal welfare as part of the PawSafe Initiative.

This initiative underscores the commitment of Palawan’s provincial government to not only empower women but also to promote responsible pet ownership and ensure the well-being of animals across the province.
