A resolution that aims to review and strengthen sustainable sewerage and septage management plan for local government units (LGUs) within Palawan was filed during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Tuesday, March 21.
The resolution was filed by Board Member Roseller Pineda, who aims to address the needs of Palaweño residents for proper sewerage and sanitation, which are equally important to provide clean and potable water to every household and prevent any health hazards that ineffective water sanitation may bring.
“This is in relation sa pagsasagawa ng mga STP in every municipality na mapag-aralan at isama na sa pagpaplano para hindi tayo laging naghahabol sa mga problema when it comes to the water sanitation na nangyayari sa kasalukuyan sa bayan ng El Nido,” Pineda said.
Septage treatment plants are used to treat wastewater coming from sources that have individual septic tanks through desludging trucks. This will involve a potential upgrading of the existing communal septic tanks of each LGU to a separate system using a decentralized approach that will use pre-existing sewer networks.
Pineda said that the measure is vital to create a rapid and effective sewer coverage expansion that may result in a better environmental and health impact on the areas and its residents.
“This resolution ay makakatulong na masiguradong malinis ang bawat munisipyo sapagkat hindi maiiwasan ang pagdami ng tao at pagkakaroon ng development,” Pineda said.
