Officials and members of the Provincial Culture and Arts Council (PCAC), led by Chairman Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates, came together with Mr. Ceasar Sammy A. Magbanua, who assumed the role of Vice-Chairman of the PCAC and also serves as the Culture and Arts Program Manager for the Provincial Government, conveyed in an assembly yesterday, October 19.
The primary agenda of this meeting was to present and discuss the Local Cultural Development Plan for CY 2024.
The meeting served as a platform for discussing the various projects, programs, and activities slated for execution in the year 2024, along with the allocation of resources required to bring them to fruition.
Notable projects and activities in the pipeline include the promotion of Visual Arts, the management and upkeep of the Palawan Heritage Center, the advancement of Palawan’s Culture and Arts, support for Cultural Mapping, development of Heritage and Culture Tourism Circuits, the creation of Heritage Site Markers, and assistance for Arts Festivals and Creative Camps, among others.
Council members actively contributed their suggestions regarding the necessary steps for promoting the culture and traditions of Palawan, especially when showcasing them beyond the province’s borders.
This includes formulating policies and strategies for effectively representing Palawan’s culture to a wider audience and conducting comprehensive research, validation, and scrutiny of information related to the indigenous culture and traditions.
Additionally, the assembly addressed pressing issues related to the exploitation of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and concerns about the misrepresentation of their culture in some activities within the province.
Participants stressed the significance of maintaining the authenticity of indigenous culture and preserving the natural ways of life of these communities.
