The Palawan Provincial Government, in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), distributed social pension benefits to eligible senior citizens in Dumaran town.
Held in Barangay Sta. Teresita on February 26, the distribution event saw the participation of Executive Assistant III Christian Albert Sabando Miguel from the Office of the Governor, representing Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates.
A total of 450 senior citizens from Barangays Sta. Teresita and Danleg received P6,000.00 each as a social pension for the months spanning January to June 2024.
This increase from the previous P5,000.00 was facilitated by the efforts of the DSWD Palawan-SWADT Team, led by SWADT Team Leader Eric P. Aborot.
Meanwhile, in a message conveyed by Miguel on behalf of Governor Socrates, gratitude was expressed to the DSWD for prioritizing senior citizens across the province.
“We in the Palawan Provincial Government are deeply thankful for valuing our senior citizens who have dedicated many years to serving our community. It is only fitting that we have such a program to show our appreciation and respect for their sacrifices… Your social pension is not just aid but recognition of your contribution to our society. To our beloved senior citizens, we salute you all,” the governor said.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) also has a program that provides social pension to senior citizens not included in the DSWD list through the Local Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens.
Dumaran town has a total of 1,082 senior citizens from 16 barangays, some of whom have already received similar programs from the DSWD in other barangays.
