Palaweños should expect a light to moderate with occasional heavy rains according to the Rainfall Advisory No. 4, Tail-End of a Frontal System weather system of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Puerto Princesa City (PAGASA PPC) which was issued this morning at 9:40 am for the last day of the year 2020.

Puerto Princesa City and other parts of the Province, especially in the Kalayaan Group of Islands will experience constant rain caused by the Equatorial trough and Low-Pressure Area (LPA) in the South Kalayaan Island.

The accumulation of thick clouds, especially in the mentioned group of islands, results from the LPA interaction with the Northeast Wind.

Red Rainfall warning has been raised in Kalayaan Islands where constant heavy rainfall is expected.

Other parts of Palawan such as Roxas, San Vicente, Dumaran, Safronio Española, Brooke’s Point, Rizal and Bataraza, and affected nearby areas will also experience rainfall.

The Calamian and Cuyo Island is partly cloudy, but PAGASA forecasts rainfall in the next few hours until tomorrow.

Strong winds from the Northeast Wind from Luzon and 2 Low-Pressure Area close to Palawan plus an equatorial trough, or low atmospheric pressure, is why wind convergences that consequently causes continuous development of thick clouds leading to uninterrupted rainfall.

Parts of Palawan may experience flood (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides as PAGASA expects the continuous rainfall will last until tomorrow.

PAGASA also has Gale Warning on Sea Conditions on the Western Coast of Palawan including Kalayaan Islands and Calamian Island caused by the Northeast Winds hence prohibits sailing.

Currently, Cuyo Island is not yet experiencing the strong winds but should expect it tonight until tomorrow and the Northern Sulu. PAGASA forewarns fishermen and the public planning to spend their holiday at the beach, especially on the Western Seaboard of Palawan including Tagkawayan and Nagtabon, beach the strong counter current and waves caused by strong winds.

PAGASA forecasts a rainy 1st day of the Year 2021, but there will be weather improvements. On Saturday and Sunday, rainfall will still be experienced but will be a slightly sunnier day.

The Public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and PAGASA advise the public to monitor the weather condition and the next advisory.
