Nakatakdang magpapadala ng supplies ang Western Command ng Armed Forces of the Philippines sa Ayungin Shoal para sa mga tropa na nakabase doon.

Ayon kay Navy Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, Commander ng Western Command, planong maghahatid sila ng mga suplay sa loob ng isang buwan. Kinakailangan nilang makapaghatid bago maubos ang mga suplay ng tropa dahil mayroong barkong kailangang maihatid sa loob ng dalawang linggo.

“We do re-supply missions every month so we usually deliver 30 days worth of food, water and other supplies to our troops in Ayungin Shoal. So that’s two weeks, so we need to do another run before the supplies–the food and the water—run out. We’re going to do that again in two weeks’ time,” pahayag ni Carlos.

Noong Agosto 5, nabalitaan ang insidente kung saan pinigilan at binomba ng tubig ng China Coast Guard ang barko ng Pilipinas na nagdadala ng mga suplay sa Ayungin Shoal.

Sa isang pulong sa Western Command noong Huwebes, Agosto 10, ibinahagi rin ni Vice Admiral Carlos na nagkaroon sila ng monitoring sa West Philippine Sea noong Agosto 9.

Mayroong mahigit na limang daang banyagang barko sa WPS, at 85 porsiyento dito ay galing sa China. Napansin din ang 12 barkong militia ng China sa West Philippine Sea.

“Noong Agosto 9, sa huling pagmomonitor namin, may mga halos 500 na malapit o higit pang lumagpas sa 400, base sa aming huling monitor sa lugar ng Wescom. Mga 85 percent dito ay mga barko ng China.”

Ayon naman kay General Romeo Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff ng Armed Forces of the Philippines, hindi lamang ang Ayungin Shoal ang kanilang kanilang minomonitor. May mga iba pang isla na kanilang binabantayan doon.

Gayundin, sinabi niyang kulang ang pondong magagamit para sa karagdagang barko at eroplano na magpapatrolya sa WPS. Kaya naman nais niyang isulong sa Kongreso ang pagbibigay ng dagdag na pondo upang makabili ng karagdagang kagamitang pangpatrolya, pati na rin sa Western Command.

“Hindi lamang tayo nakatuon sa Ayungin Shoal at sa BRP Sierra Madre. May mga iba rin tayong isla na binabantayan, at kailangan natin ng pondo upang mapabuti ang mga facilities doon. Kailangan nating palakasin ang ating presensya sa West Philippine Sea, at ito ay magre-require ng karagdagang pondo.”

Binigyang-diin din ng opisyal na walang puwedeng humadlang sa kanilang misyon, lalo na ang paghahatid ng mga suplay sa West Philippine Sea. “This our duty our obligation to bring supplies to our troops on board. So hindi po tayo pwedeng pigilin or sabihan kung anong dapat gawin doon no. In fact within our exclusive economic zone.”
