For incoming freshmen, they process their enrollment in WPU-main campus in Aborlan and in WPU’s campus in Sta. Monica, Puerto Princesa.
The first day of enrollment in WPU main in Aborlan, Palawan was crowded, as students waited patiently for their turns, even outside the school’s infirmary building. But for many students, they said that they “expected” it, that students will trooped either on the first day or during the last day of enrollment.

Janelle, one of the incoming engineering students said that students trooped and crowded both inside and outside the building, specifically those who undergo medical examination in WPU’s infirmary. She said that she was among the first to queue by 7am and finished there 12:30noon. By 1pm, Janelle said that she already started the enrollment process but has to be cut off before 5pm.

“Since wala pa akong boarding house dito sa Aborlan, uwi lang kami ng mga kasama ko, at babalik nalang bukas dito,” she said, further informing that she spend more than P400 in her food and bus fare since she stay in Barangay Sta. Monica in Puerto Princesa.

She however, finished the enrollment process by noontime of the following day, July 2, 2025.

Boardinghouses in Aborlan ranges from 1,000 to 4,500/monthly or even higher. Janelle said that she found a P2,000 monthly rental for a room with common CR and kitchen, some 600 meters away from WPU-Aborlan’s gate. Her friend Althea, preferred to stay in a more cozy space at 4,500/monthly.

As observed, common supplies sold in stores near or adjacent to WPU’s main gate has doubled. A long folder with plastic acetate which is only P20 is now sold at P40.

Reynald, an incoming freshmen student said that he bought his supplies in one of the stalls in Aborlan public market, which is cheaper by 50percent. “Doble rin kasi ang presyo pag doon na sa mga tindahan malapit sa school. Sana may sumasaway rin sa mga ganyan na nag-o-overprice na rin”.
As among the state universities and colleges (SUCs), WPU has been mandated as provider of advanced education in field of agriculture, fisheries, forestry, engineering, environment, education, arts and sciences, rural development. PSU on the other hand has been mandated to provide higher professional and special instructions for special purposes and provide research and extension services, advanced studies and progressive leadership in education and other fields, including geology and oil exploration.
