The Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, approved Resolution No. 330-21 during their Regular Session, which aims to lift prohibiting, banning and other restrictions on the exportation or shipment of palay, milled rice and by-products outside the Province of Palawan.
Board Member Albert Rama, the author of the resolution said that the province has an enough supply of rice due to the harvest season and the exportation of such products should be allowed again.
“We passed this particular measure, Resolution No. 330-21 [15097, Series of 2020] and Provincial Ordinance 2241 for the reason that we want to ensure our food security during the height of the pandemic. We want to ascertain the supply of rice during that period because the Provincial Agriculture Office advice that there’s no assurance that there will be enough supply during that period,” Rama expressed.
“But because presently it is already harvest season and we have enough and sufficient supply of rice. So in order not to affect the prices of rice we are now proposing to lift the restriction,” he added.
