In an effort to expand income-generating opportunities for farmers and integrate agriculture more meaningfully into Palawan’s tourism sector, the Provincial Government conducted a three-day “Farm Tourism 101 Training” in the municipality of Busuanga from May 26 to 28, 2025.
The initiative was spearheaded by the Provincial Tourism Promotions and Development Office (PTPDO) and held at the Municipal Function Hall. It brought together local farmers and stakeholders to explore how agricultural activities and landscapes can become part of the province’s growing tourism narrative.
The training focused on the role of agriculture in the tourism industry and introduced alternative methods for developing and promoting farm tourism. Discussions emphasized the importance of sustainable practices, cultural preservation, and community-based participation in building tourism experiences rooted in local livelihoods.
Leading the activity was Provincial Tourism Officer Maribel C. Buñi, supported by Tourism Operations Officer II Mark Kenneth B. Camama and Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Liezl R. Ogdamin.
The training forms part of a broader provincial strategy to strengthen tourism as a vehicle for rural development, especially in far-flung municipalities where farming remains a primary source of income.
By equipping farmers with knowledge on tourism integration, the program aims to open new avenues for economic resilience and promote agri-tourism as a viable complement to traditional agriculture.
Busuanga, often overshadowed by its neighboring tourist magnet Coron, is seen as a potential hub for emerging forms of tourism focused on nature, culture, and sustainability.
Through initiatives like this, provincial authorities are laying the groundwork for inclusive growth that links environmental stewardship with rural enterprise.
