In an effort to curb the increasing population of stray dogs and cats, Lio Tourism Estate and volunteers conducted a 2-day activity to sterilize and neuter the dogs and cats in El Nido, Palawan, October 5-6, 2019.

Distal Judith, one of the volunteers of the event, said that the activity aimed to control the number of the stray dogs and cats in the municipality, and to reach as many barangays as possible by “catch, neuter, release, and hopefully find loving homes for as many as possible.”

There were 3 stray cats that were adopted while dogs remained with their respective owners after the procedures conducted by the veterinarians.

In order to be eligible, kittens and dogs must be three months old and above, pets must be with their owners leashed or caged, and ensure that no food and water intake from 10 in the evening before the procedure.

Judith said that they were “grateful to the Team of Jacqueline Baut of Palawan Animal Welfare Foundation and her vets who made the event possible, together with Doc Danilo Quintero, Doc Danilo Hiceta, Ate Flor and Dr Agathe Debruille from Palawan Bearcat program.”

“The vets worked non-stop without even eating lunch. We are so grateful to all of you!” she added.

The event was organized by Tourism Estate through Dr. Jerika Dahino, Marigs Laririt together with the volunteers from the El Nido Community.

“The guards were catching some stray dogs along the roads. We put collars at them and then released them after they got spayed,” Judith said.

“Thanks to the tireless Volunteers Roseana McCabe, Mario Changco, Yana Smeulders and her friend, John Hiler, Bee Kim, Mila Khulatz, Ronel, and Yaron. We also want to thank to the SPONSORS helping with big ang small contributions,” she said.

Judith and the organizers would like to “thank everyone who brought their dogs and cats to be spayed and neutered. It is responsible pet owners like you that will help us get our animal population under control!”

Similar activities were conducted last January 26 by Lio in partnership with the Philippine Animal Welfare Society and June 30 at El Nido National High School with 86 beneficiaries.
