Art for art’s sake? May be this is an alien concept to Hulyo Opiala, a painter who never stops exploring other genre, medium, or fields of art in his quest to produce works of art that will make people happy.

Even the Native American Indians’ dream catcher, believed to drive away bad dreams, has not escaped Hulyo’s innovative and artful hands as he tried to express in hoops and threads the beauty that dwells in his heart.

One day, I came to The Yamang Bukid Farm and saw a man making a big dream catcher. There at the farm’s Pasalubong store he was sitting with eyes so sharp for details and fingers carefully working on every twist and turns, and proper placements of the threads on piece that he was creating.

And soon, the bare hoop in his hand slowly metamorphosed into a web of colors so relaxing to the eye.

Hulyo is Yamang Bukid’s half-blood first-aider, half-blood artist.

“Para sa akin po, nakaka-relax lang sya gawin. Kasi mahilig ako mag butingting o mag kumpuni ng mga gamit, mga ganun po,” he said.

He prides himself to be called Yamang Bukid’s “Tinkerbell” as he loves to tinker with things, modifying them into works of art.

His talent in art has become his tool in making people happy. Making people happy with his artwork, he said, is like a flower planted in his heart and continues to bloom every day.

“Iba iba naman po kasi ang konsepto ng tao pag dating sa art. Para sa akin, yung art ko ginagawa ko para makapasaya ng tao,” said Hulyo.

Hulyo is a first-aider, as well as an artist at The Yamang Bukid Farm.

He said he is thankful to The Yamang Bukid Farm because he gets to practice his art profession and fulfill his passion altogether.

He acknowledged that the support of the Yamang Bukid Healthy Products, Inc. has empowered him as an artist and as a person, saying that the farm has elevated the value of and the appreciation for art in Palawan.

“Kasi yung art dito dati sa Palawan hindi nakikita. So parang dahil sa support ni Yamang Bukid, yung value ngayon ng art dito unti-unti nang umaangat. Mas nakaka-inspire pa magpatuloy at mag-share ng gawa mo,” he said.
Hulyo, a man who is gifted with talents, creates happiness through by sharing it. He feels valued because The Yamang Bukid Healthy Products Inc has made him feel valued as an artist and as an individual. For him, happiness is not happiness until it is shared.
