The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over parts of Northern Luzon as Tropical Depression Dodong advances across Luzon.

With its path set to enhance the southwest monsoon, various regions including Central and Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao are expected to experience intensified weather conditions, including MIMAROPA.

Dodong’s arrival has prompted PAGASA to raise the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, indicating possible strong winds between 55 kilometers per hour, in certain areas of Northern Luzon. Residents in these affected areas are advised to take precautionary measures and be prepared for potential disruptions to daily activities.

In addition to the wind signal, Dodong’s impact is anticipated to heighten the southwest monsoon, resulting in heavy rains across multiple regions. PAGASA forecasts that Ilocos region, MIMAROPA, Zambales, and Bataan will experience significant rainfall.

The convergence of Dodong and the southwest monsoon is expected to bring prolonged rainfall, which may result in localized flooding and landslides in susceptible areas. PAGASA advises residents living near mountainous regions, low-lying areas, and riverbanks to stay vigilant and heed any evacuation advisories from local authorities.

Dodong is expected to make a northwestward turn as it moves across the West Philippine Sea on Saturday, July 15, according to meteorological experts. Forecasts suggest that Dodong has the potential to intensify into a tropical storm as it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by tonight or tomorrow morning, July 16.
