The low pressure area (LPA) might bring floods across Palawan as it continues to cross the southeast vicinity of the island, Philippine Atmospheric Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 8AM weather forecast on Thursday, January 27.

The weather bureau places Kalayaan Island in a red level warning as serious flooding is expected in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas while the towns of Aborlan, Dumaran, Taytay, El Nido, Araceli, San Vicente, Roxas, Cagayancillo and the city of Puerto Princesa remain under the yellow warning level as the LPA continues to move southwest of Palawan.

PAGASA reported that the current LPA has a slim chance of turning into a tropical cyclone but will still trigger to bring scattered rain showers in affected areas.

No gale warning over the Palawan’s seaboards has been raised, but waves are mostly moderate to rough. Fishermen and those with small vessels may still venture out at sea.

The state weather bureau also recently announced that the country is expecting at least an average of 20 tropical cyclones to form or enter within PAR this year.

Meanwhile, as of 3AM Thursday, PAGASA reported that the LPA is approximately moving 190 kilometers south-southwest of Puerto Princesa and is expected to clear the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday.
