Vice Admiral Rene Medina, Commander of Western Command (WESCOM) encourages all of the Filipino people especially the youth to remember the sacrifices of Filipino heroes during the celebration of the 121st Independence Day of Puerto Princesa City in Mendoza Park, June 12.

According to Medina’s speech, Independence Day is a tribute to the heroes who fought for the independence of the country.

City Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron, represented by City Councilor Nancy Socrates, highlights the bravery and heroism of Palawan’s local hero Dr. Higinio Mendoza Sr. in his speech.

The theme of Independence Day 2019 celebration is “Kalayaan 2019: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.”

Provincial and city government officials, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel, other government agencies and civilians offered flowers to the statues of the National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal and Palawan’s Hero Dr. Higinio Mendoza Sr.

A parade was also held from Rizal Park to Mendoza Park where personnel from WESCOM led the flag bearers followed by 50 Eagle Scouts from Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP).
