Capitol intensifies tax collection drive

The Provincial Treasures’s Office intensified its drive to increase tax collection in a bid to boost local revenues and translate to more infrastructure projects in the province.

The move is in compliance with the instruction of Governor Jose C. Alvarez to maximize the local revenue collection.

This year, the Provincial Treasurer’s Officer headed by Provincial Treasurer Elino P. Mondragon conducted Tax Campaign and Information Dissemination on Tax Imposition in San Vicente, Palawan. They targeted taxpayers in the barangay level to increase their awareness that their barangay will also benefit from the increased collection.

Mondragon explained that the quality of the province’s social services and its infrastructure projects depend on the taxes collected.

“Lahat ng buhis na nakokolekta is converted into social services katulad ng medical services, financial assistance, at tangible projects like roads and bridges, school buildings, multi-purpose pavements at iba pang mga infrastructure projects kasama na ang mga water systems. Ang provincial government ay limitado ang pangongolekta ng buwis, hindi ito makapagpataw ng business tax kaya inaasahan natin ng malaking pagkukuhanan ng buwis ay Real Property Tax,” Mondragon said.

Aside from conducting Tax Information Drive, their office sent Warrant Notices and Warrant of Levy to delinquent property owners and deployed personnel and assigned them to both south and north national highway’s checkpoints. This is intended to collect annual fixed tax from delivery vans and trucks that ply to the different routes and destinations outside Puerto Princesa City.

He urged delivery van and truck owners to visit their office.

“Nanawagan ako sa mga nagmamay-ari ng mga delivery vans at truck operators na hindi pa nakakapagbayad na tumungo na sa aming tanggapan sa Kapitolyo at magbayad ng kaukulang limang daang piso upang malagyan ng sticker ang kanilang sasakyan nang hindi maantala ang kanilang biyahe o mapinsala ang kanilang binabiyahe na mga gulay o livestock,” Mondragon said
