Palaweño star athlete Kevin Pascua caught two birds with one stone: winning a gold medal, and setting a world record, finishing at 29.92 seconds at the 100-meter obstacle course race (OCR).
According to World OCR – Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (International Obstacle Sports Federation), the previous record for Men’s 100m OCR stood at 31 seconds.
A congratulatory Facebook post by taekwondo instructor Raymond Padua detailed Pascua’s rise to stardom, as a taekwondo black belter, almost making it to the Philippine delegation to the US Open Taekwondo Championships, as a wall climber, to becoming a known name in the Ultimate Frisbee community, and in Obstacle Course Racing. Pascua also rose to fame in OCR, taking home a gold medal in an international competition in Russia, and becoming a part of the Philippine Team of the 30th SEA Games, as Assistant Team Captain.
Pascua beat Malaysian Mohd Redha Rozlan and fellow Filipino Mark Julius Rodelas, with them winning silver and bronze, respectively.
