Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) recently announced that it has 238 new cases of coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) making it 262 from 24, as of the press time.

In a report by the Qatar News Agency, “new cases were from expatriates who had contact with the three individuals that were declared infected last Sunday and who reside in one residential complex.”

The report added that “MOPH explained that the new cases that were registered are those who were subject to quarantine as a precautionary measure since the discovery of the three infected cases, which prevented them from contacting other members of society.”

Qatar has temporarily banned 14 countries effective March 10, 2020, which include Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Syria and Thailand.

As of July 2019, according to the Philippine Embassy in Qatar, there were around 236,000 Filipinos living in the country.
