Starting this month, Philippine top mobile wallet app Gcash will now require all its 76 million users to activate “DoubleSafe,” a new safety feature that will require users to provide two-factor authentication above their mobile pin.
The Globe-backed mobile wallet app announced that it will roll out DoubleSafe to prevent unauthorized frauds amid the proliferation of scams, online fraud, smishing, and phishing.
DoubleSafe will ensure that only the account owner has the ability to link his Gcash account to any specific device. The new security feature will use facial recognition, or a “selfie scan,” to prevent account takeovers.
The new feature will be activated once a user tries to log in to a new mobile phone aside from his main device.
Gcash announced on Twitter that the new feature is currently on limited release and will soon be available to all users nationwide.
