Sixteen Barangay Veterinary Aides (BVAs) from different barangays of Brooke’s Point completed a three-day training organized by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PROVET) from August 13 to 15, aimed at expanding basic veterinary services in rural communities.
The training focused on key areas of livestock and poultry management, including animal rabies prevention, ruminant care, swine production, and poultry health. Sessions also introduced herbal medicine as an alternative remedy for common animal illnesses.
Trainees were likewise briefed on the Barangay Veterinary Aide Memorandum of Agreement (BVA MOA), the proper filing of monthly reports, and the incentives provided to active aides. The final day of the training was devoted to hands-on demonstrations, where participants practiced animal handling, basic first aid, and vaccination techniques.
The sessions were led by Dr. June Clyde B. Descallar, DVM; Kenneth M. Panganiban, RAgr; and livestock technician Victorino S. Beradas, under the supervision of Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Darius Mangcucang.
