The Palawan Wagyu & Sorghum Forum held on April 25, 2026 at McDonald’s San Pedro paved way to the formation of Palawan Wagyu Farmers Association, a group of dedicated local farmers and stakeholders who will be venture into Wagyu beef production in Palawan.
Former Agriculture Sec. Manny Piñol spearheaded the forum with the support and coordination of Palawan-based farmers and businessmen. The forum intends to gather local governments, farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to build a local high-value Beef industry.
The former agriculture secretary and now South Cotabato governor said that the proposed Wagyu beef production project in Palawan “has already stirred the interest of big names in local business and agriculture, including local government officials.”.
He further said that to prove that they are willing to travel far just to learn, members of the newly formed PWFA with its interim president, Elroy John Hagedorn, will travel to Polomolok, South Cotabato on May 16 to learn and benchmark on their Wagyu Farm and Sorghum plantations.

A municipal councilor from Cuyo Island north of main Palawan Island who took an 11-hour ferry ride, a farmer who traveled 8 hours from Bataraza town in the southern tip and a couple who supplies local markets with imported Brazilian beef were among the participants in yesterday’s Wagyu and Sorghum Forum in Puerto Princesa City,” the former agriculture secretary said.
The topics during the forum include Philippine Food Security Overview by Former Agriculture Sec. Manny Piñol; Philippine Cattle Industry Situationer presented by Dr. Roland Fajardo DVM;Modern Cattle Raising and Fattening In Feedlots with Arnel.Corpuz as resource person, Sorghum Farming and Its Contribution To Cattle Industry presented by Frank Aguda; and Palawan Wagyu Production Program – deliberated by Former DA Sec. Manny Piñol.
A copy of Philippine Cattle Feeding Handbook by Arnel Corpuz was given during the forum.
“With a Cattle population of only 55,000 in an island province with 1.2-million residents, Palawan is highly dependent on other provinces in the mainland Luzon for beef supply. The Wagyu & Sorghum will outline opportunities in high-value Beef production which could also boost tourism,” Piñol declared.
He further said that It was a touching sight as local business leaders joined the farmers to discover the potentials of Wagyu production in the island province which draws over 2-million tourists every year.
