In support with Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela, Kiwanis Club of Last Frontier, Tactical Operations Wing West, Philippine Air Force, JCI Puerto Princesa Oil conducted 2nd Misyong Edukasyon, Kalusugan, at Kabuhayan and Project Assemble 5.0 Year 2 in Virgilio R. Magbanua Memorial Elementary School, Monday, May 27.

The program is not a simple Brigada Eskwela, but a comprehensive activity that includes dental care hygiene education and dental hygiene kit distribution, container gardening for parents, magic show, games and distribution of school supplies for the beneficiaries.

From Kinder up to Grade 6, 100 student beneficiaries received school supplies from the organizers.

The purpose of the activity was to provide educational and health assistance to students for the upcoming start of classes on Monday, June 3.

“Number one is makapagbigay kami ng educational assistance by giving school supplies for 100 kids. And then we also provide about health, ‘yung tungkol naman sa dental health care education kung saan nagbigay rin ng dental kit,” said Ivy Marie D. Bayog, Club President of Kiwanis Club of Last Frontier in an exclusive interview with Palawan Daily News.

Bayog also explained the importance providing livelihood assistance to the parents of the students through the container gardening activity.

“Meron din po tayong pangkabuhayan kaya po edukasyon, kalusugan at kabuhayan kasi pasok po dyan yung container gardening… Makakatanim sila ng gulay para maging source ng pagkain at tsaka source of income,” she added.

Rexlin Azarcon, President of JCI Oil Puerto Princesa explained the concept behind the comprehensive activity.

“Ito po yung first project ng JCI Oil na tinatawag namin na ‘umbrella project’. Isang major project and then marami pa siyang subcomponent… Hindi siya kagaya ng dati na isang project lang, we make sure ay lahat ng components, ‘pag nagpa-project ay naabot po namin,” Azarcon said.

To amuse and to provide happiness for the kids, the organizers also included a magic show, as well as games partnered with prizes and snacks.

“Ang pagsiserve sa mga bata ‘di lang in kind, kundi pagpapakita ng pagkalinga na sila ay pasayahin. Mapasaya ang mga bata to provide entertainment,” said Bayog.

The organizers are planning to reach out to other schools for the next year’s Brigada Eskwela, adding more activities in the event.

With 16 faculty members, Virgilio R. Magbanua Memorial Elementary School has 414 students from Kinder to Grade 6 during the last school year.
