The buzz is already out in the social media world about Puerto Princesa as this year’s venue of the popular triathlon event in the country today, the Ironman 70.3, which is organized by Sunrise Events, Inc. But there is no confirmation yet from the Ironman official website.

Some City officials are mum about the event that will add excitement and is seen as a big come on for the third year of Subaraw Festival, the highly celebrated festivity in the City that honors the famous Underground River.

According to a source that refused to be identified, the road for the Ironman preparation is still a work in progress as there are some demands by the organizers that the City leadership is still working on to meet in order to become this year’s official venue.

Some of these requirements are the completion of road paving on the west coast, and the completion of the Ramon V. Mitra Sports Complex near the City Hall.

PDN tried to get a statement from Sunrise Events but it wished to keep mum on the matter for now clarifying it will officially announce it on its website once everything is 100% confirmed. There is currently a series of meetings between the organizers and the City Sports Office.

The source said that as early as November last year, the Ironman team repeatedly visited the City for the finalization of the event.

The source also added that in case the Ironman event won’t push through this year, the City will still hold a triathlon in line with Subaraw Festival.

The Ironman as handled by Sunrise Events, Inc. started in 2009 as they advocate Sports Tourism, a showcase to the world through triathlon, which consists of 3 sports: swimming, biking and running. In the past, it was held in Camarines Sur, Subic, Cebu City, and Davao City, and widely participated by Filipino and foreign triathletes.
