Naka-amba ang pagtaas ng singilin sa buwanang konsumo sa kuryente sa lungsod ng Puerto Princesa at iba pang bahagi ng lalawigan ng Palawan na sini-serbisyuhan ng Palawan Electric Cooperative o PALECO.

Kasunod ito ng inilabas na kautusan ng Department of Energy noong January 2019 kung saan nakasaad na patuloy ang pagtaas ng gastos ng kagawaran dahil sa ibinibigay nitong subsidiya sa mga Small Power Utility Group o SPUG sa bansa tulad ng PALECO na mula sa Universal Charge Missionary Electrification o UCME.

Dahil dito, agad na humingi ng tulong ang PALECO sa city government at agad na nagpadala ng liham ang kooperatiba kay Mayor Lucilo Bayron at hinihingi ang suporta nito maging ng Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Napag-alaman na una naring gumawa ng resolusyon ang Board of Directors ng PALECO na nagpapayahag ng pagtutol sa inilabas na kautusan ng DOE na magpapahirap anila sa member-consumers ng kooperatiba.

Ayon kay PALECO Board of Directors Chairman Jeffrey Tan Endriga, ginagawa nila ang lahat upang hindi masama ang Palawan sa implementasyon nito kaya nga agad anya silang humingi ng tulong sa mga lokal na opisyales ng lungsod at lalawigan.

“We [PALECO Board] is opposing this at may mga hakbang tayo like magpapa-signature campaign tayo para lang i-manifest ang pag-object natin dito. And kahapon [August 25], sinubmit natin during session of the city council, we took advantage at binigyan natin sila ng information dahil malaking factor din ‘yan na makasuporta sila,” ani Endriga sa panayam ng Palawan Daily News.

Mahalaga lang anya na makuha ang suporta ng lahat upang makita ng DOE na nagkakaisa ang mga Palaweño na isa sa direktang apektado ng kautusang ito sakaling matuloy na ang implementasyon kung saan aalisin ang subsidiya sa mga SPUG areas sa bansa.

Samantala, sa Biyernes [August 28], ay magpapatawag din ng press conference ang PALECO upang maipaliwanag at maipakita sa publiko ang posibleng maging epekto ng nasabing kautusan sa singilin sa konsumo sa kuryente ng isang member-consumer ng kooperatiba.

“Isa-simulate natin ‘yung rate impact if mag-pursue si DOE to cancel the subsidy at finance ang magbibigay ng mas detalyadong computation. Dito ay mapi-picture out ng publiko ang epekto nito sa atin,” dagdag ni Endriga.

At kung matutuloy ang DOE Order, posibleng sa taong 2021 ito masimulan at dito rin mararamdaman ng member-consumers ng PALECO ang epekto nito sa kanilang buwanang konsumo sa kuryente.
