WBPP supports declaration of Puerto Princesa as Birding Capital

The Wild Birds Photographers of the Philippines (WBPP) supports for the declaration of Puerto Princesa City as the country’s Birding Capital.

In their manifesto issued recently, signed by its chairman of the Board of Trustees, Atty. Ramon Quisumbing, the WBB said that for the first five years of hosting the International Bird Photography Race since 2015, the City Government of Puerto Princesa has led the promotion of bird ecotourism in the country.

The International Bird Photography Race has become an annual event as part of the Subaraw Biodiversity Festival. This year, some 66 bird photographers participated the event, some of them are foreigners.

The WBPP further said that good number of birds easily encountered within the city and they urged the city government to continuously protect all endemic birds as a nature based to benefit tourism and sustainable development.

Scientist said that there are 24 endemic birds which can only be found in Palawan.

The WBPP further said that the city’s Urban Forestry Project ensure the protection of endemic birds for the world to experience.

They further said that that the becoming the Birding Capital adds feather to the city’s cap therefore the need to protect and conserve its natural wonders is highly necessary.
