In the remote Barangay Ipilan, located in the town of Narra, Palawan, resides an elderly couple who tread the streets every morning, bringing light and hope to the people they encounter.

Palawan Daily had the privilege to meet Mr. Jullie and Mrs. Letecia Cabañero, a senior couple who sells fresh vegetables using their tricycle. However, their story goes beyond their livelihood; it encompasses their unwavering love for their 24-year-old son who we will call “Daniel,” who has autism.

Throughout their many years together, the couple never gave up in the face of life’s challenges. As an elderly couple, they take great care of each other. They collaborate on household chores, from cultivating vegetables with their other children up to managing daily household tasks. Through their unity, they overcome life’s hurdles and journey towards their dreams.

But their true test came when they welcomed their son, Daniel, into the world. At a young age, they discovered that Daniel had autism. Amid their limited knowledge of the condition, they never gave up. They demonstrated dedication and love by learning ways to help Daniel develop his abilities.

However, love and effort alone were not enough to meet their daily needs. To sustain their family and support Daniel’s needs, the couple decided to establish a small business. They utilized their tricycle as a mobile vegetable store, selling the fresh produce they harvested from their garden.

As the three of them traverse the roads of Narra proper from Barangay Ipilan, this couple becomes an inspiration to their neighbors. They not only offer fresh vegetables but also provide a shining example of love and determination in the face of adversity. Their resilience and positive outlook on life radiate hope to those who cross their path.

Beyond their livelihood, the couple also utilizes their tricycle to promote community unity. They give away free vegetables to select families in need. This act of generosity is not only a way to help others but also a way to express gratitude to those who support them.

Behind this simple means of livelihood, this couple showcases strength, determination, and hope that touches the hearts of many. Their love for each other and Daniel aims to inspire others never to give up on life’s challenges.

With each folding of their tricycle, a light shines from the couple’s eyes. They serve as guides and bearers of hope for their community. This journey of hope demonstrates that there are no limitations to love and determination, and together, we can support one another and fight for our dreams.

In Barangay Ipilan, this couple embodies the true essence of togetherness, love, and hope. Despite their age, their child’s condition, or the circumstances they face, they continue to push forward, love fiercely, and journey towards a brighter future. Their story is proof that age, condition, or opportunity is no barrier to inspiring others and achieving dreams in life.
