Prior to joining Palawan Daily News, Jay was with ABS CBN Palawan from January 2012 until its closure in August 2020 due to the Philippine Congress’ denial of its mother company’s franchise renewal in July 2020. He was the OIC-News Head for TV 7 Palawan, home to TV Patrol Palawan and Program Director for DYAP 765 Abante Palawan, ABS-CBN’s local radio station. He began his career in journalism as a field reporter, and went up the ranks to become Desk Editor. He anchored TV Patrol Palawan, Radyo Patrol Balita, a morning radio news program, Abante Palawan, a radio commentary on local affairs, and Piring ng Hustisya, a program that tackled laws and legal issues in partnership with IBP Palawan chapter.

Under his direction, TV Patrol Palawan became a Finalist in the Best News Program category for the Gandingan Awards in 2013. It received the award for Special Citation for Best Regional News Program in 2014, then was awarded Best News Program in 2015. He received the Gandingan Award for Best News Anchor that same year.

Jay Zabanal who will be managing the news and current affairs department of Palawan Daily News expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving his fellow Palaweños.

“ABS-CBN man o Boses ng Palawan o Palawan Daily News, ang makatulong sa Palawan ay lagi kong tatanawin na karangalan. Nagpapasalamat ako sa Palawan Daily News sa pagkakataon na maibahagi at maipasa ang aking mga kaalamang natutunan bilang isang mamamahayag,” said Jay, who last year launched his Boses Ng Palawan program in Facebook.

“We welcome Sir Jay to the Palawan Daily family, and together, we look forward to a productive and meaningful journey this 2021 and beyond, providing our readers, subscribers and followers the trusted, fair and balanced reporting,” said Kent N. Janaban, publisher and president of Palawan Daily News and Alpha Eight Publishing.
