Keith Mikkelson, the Executive Director of Aloha Ranch and Organic Farm in Puerto Princesa City, was listed as one of the 28 “innovative livestock farmers” who are shaping the future of protein according to the nonprofit organization Food Tank.

In an article published on their website in March 2020, Food Tank stated that poorly managed livestock systems result in several environmental and health problems, such as the production of contaminants from animal wastes. Innovative farmers such as Mikkelson solve the issues caused by conventional farming through their sustainable and ecological farming systems.

Aloha Ranch and Organic Farm is an ecological village with sustainable food production in Puerto Princesa City. It provides food for Aloha House, which is an orphanage housed on the farm, and local communities in the city.

The small-scale farm raises cattle, goats, hogs, and chickens using a natural farming process. According to the article, Mikkelson utilizes animal power, manure, and other animal byproducts to plant and grow vegetables, make fertilizers, and transform wastes into useful materials such as biochar.

Mikkelson also writes and speaks about his knowledge and experiences in sustainable farming.

The article by Food Tank also features farmers from different parts of the globe such as the United States, Singapore, Kenya, India, and the United Kingdom, among others.

Food Tank aims to build a global community for safe, healthy, and nourished eaters. They feature innovative ideas concerning global food systems and create networks of people, organizations, and content to incite change.
