Iwahig Corrections Facility (ICF) formerly known as Iwahig Prisons and Penal Farm (IPPF) is disinfecting facilities and providing alcohol and protective masks for their employees and Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL’s) amid the threat of the novel corona virus disease (COVID-19).
ICF Spokesperson Levi Evangelista, told Palawan Daily News that until now, they were happy to announce that they have not recorded any case among their personnel and inmates due to the preventive measures being implemented inside the facility.
“Marami tayong ginawa as per instruction ni Chief Superintendent Raul Levita like ‘yung disinfection ng dormitories, prison camps, entrance gate kasama na ang hospital thru the help ng binigay sa aming disinfectant chemical ng Puerto Princesa City Water District,” said Evangelista in a phone interview.
They were also scanning the body temperature of the persons entering the main entrance gate with the help of the Barangay Health Workers (BHW) of Barangay Iwahig.
“Nagpapasalamat kami sa Barangay Officials ng Iwahig dahil wala na nga kaming mabiling thermal scanner and sila ay may extra kaya sila narin (Health Workers) ang gumagawa ng body temperature scanning sa ating gate to check talaga ‘yung lahat ng mga pumapasok though limited nalang naman ang pumapasok dito,” he added.
Evangelista also said that ICF management implemented a 15-days duty and 15-days off among its personnel to really secure the health condition of everyone.
“May directive narin si Chief Superintendent Levita na 15 days’ duty at 15 days off dito sa loob para walang lalabas sa amin sa loob ng kalahating buwan and may mga barangay quarantine pass din kami at BuCor quarantine pass para sa mga lalabas sa ating charcoal gate kaya well screened talaga tayo dito with the rest of sub-colonies,” Evita told PDN.
Meanwhile, due to the situation and to protect the personnel and most especially the PDL’s, Evangelista said that it is possible that they will extend the lockdown inside the facility beyond one month to ensure the safety of everybody.
“Pag natapos na ito, probably mag-eextend pa tayo ng quarantine period and lockdown considering and for the welfare ng ating PDL’s dahil alam n’yo naman dito na hindi natin magawa ang social distancing dahil masikip talaga and para matiyak na hindi tayo malusutan ng virus kaya ngayon pa lang is sana maintindihan na tayo ng mga dalaw at kamag-anak ng mga PDL’s natin and waiting parin tayo sa instructions ng ating NHQ,” Evangelista ended.
