Sen. Hontiveros, kinakalampag ang China na bayaran ang P800-B damage sa WPS

“There is so much we could do with P800 billion. The money could go to our country’s COVID-19 response.”

Ito ang iginiit ni Sen. Risa Hontiveros sa kanyang post sa kanyang social media account kahapon, Abril 26 dahil sa di pa rin pagtigil ng Tsina sa mga aktibidad nito sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) na nagresulta sa pagkasira ng mga likas-yaman at nawalang kita o resources sana ng Pilipinas.

Ibinahagi ng Senadora na noong April 2020 ay una siyang naghain ng Senate Resolution No. 369, na humihiling sa Ehekutibo na isulong ang legal at diplomatic efforts  upang magbayad ang China na gagamitin naman sa  COVID-19 response ng Pilipinas.

Pinagbatayan umano ni Hontiveros ang ulat ng kinatawan ng Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (UP) Marine Science Institute na nagsasabing nawawalan ang Pilipinas ng P33.1 bilyon kada taon at umabot na ito sa P200 bilyon ngayon habang nagpapatuloy ang China sa pag-reclaim ng mga area sa WPS.

Ngunit nakatanggap pa umano siya ng ulat na nasa P644 bilyon pa ang nawala sa Pilipinas pagdating sa mga mahuhuli sanang mga isda ng mga Pilipino na nawala dahil sa presensiya ng China sa WPS simula 2014. Bunsod nito ay aabot na umano sa nasa P800 bilyon ang dapat bayaran ng China sa bansa.

Ito rin umano ang nag-udyok kay Sen. Hontiveros na buhayin muli noong Pebrero ang dati niyang inihaing panukalang batas na layong pagmultahin ang China.

“We are well within our rights to pressure China to pay P800 billion for her damage of the West Philippine Sea. Ang gusto natin ay compensation, hindi konsumisyon,” giit pa ng Senadora.
