A police officer from the Provincial Police Drug Enforcement Unit (PPDEU) died yesterday, November 13, after accidentally shooting his head while cleaning his firearm about 11PM on November 12 at Barangay Princess Urduja, Narra, Palawan.
Authorities identified the officer as PCPL Melvin Rios, 37 years old, married and resident of Purok 3, Barangay Princess Urduja, Narra Palawan.
Investigation revealed that Rios was cleaning his firearm with his brother last night, who police identified as Roderick Rios, 39 years old, welder, and a resident of the same address.
Accidentally, the firearm fired, hitting the officer in his head and at the same time hitting his brother in his right jaw.
The victims were rushed to Narra Municipal Hospital but PCPL Rios was later on declared dead by the attending physician while his brother is still under observation.
