In this era where traveling does not only denote pleasure but primarily becomes a means of earning a living, people tend to be pre-occupied with what awaits them once they step off the vehicle, in return, safety has become the least of priority.

If people will be asked on why they disregard buckling-up while riding, most would answer that they are expert drivers, and have never been involved to accidents. On the other hand, others would say that seatbelts would only clutter their uniforms or clothes. Will these answers give them justification once they found themselves about to cross the line between life and death?

As accidents have become usual scenario in the streets, here are some reminders on how wearing seatbelts (which is given emphasis in Republic Act 8750) can increase one’s chance of survival.

It keeps one secure and safe in times of vehicle crashes, buckling up can prevent a person from being ejected in the vehicle (which is absolutely deadly).

Wearing seatbelts can protect the internal organs since seat belts are designed for the body’s strong bones to absorb shock, and can prevent an individual from being knocked unconscious.

It helps one’s body match the speed of the vehicle. If you are not wearing a seatbelt, your body will continue moving at the same speed as your car after the impact.

These are just few of the benefits of wearing seat belt to safeguard your life while running errands or just enjoying a ride. Remember, as cliché as it may sound, preventing an accident to happen is way better than treating a broken leg.
