The Provincial Government of Palawan has officially launched the highly anticipated Inter-municipality Sports Festival on Tuesday, August 22, featuring competitions in football, sepak takraw, and table tennis.

This event is currently taking place at the Western Philippines University (WPU) Aborlan and the Sofronio Española Municipal Gymnasium.

The event began with a brief program before the start of the tournaments, where Provincial Sports Division’s Sports Development Officer IV, Silvanny Delight Q. Gastanes, and Sports & Games Regulation Officer II, Janelle B. Beltran, warmly greeted the Palawan athletes.

According to Gastanes, these competitions serve as a platform for athletes to showcase their talents and contribute to the continuous development of their skills and character.

“The goal of Governor Dennis M. Socrates is to expand the knowledge and abilities of our youth and officials in various sports across the province of Palawan.

We hope that this will be an avenue for you to demonstrate your skills in playing, discipline, camaraderie, accepting defeat, and humility towards fellow players, despite the success you achieve during the four days of competition,” Gastanes said.

A total of twenty-eight (28) teams from different municipalities within the province and parts of the country participated in the Palawan Sepak Takraw Invitational Tournament, which is divided into three categories: Open Men’s Regu; Open Women’s Regu, and 15 years old and below Men’s Regu.

Meanwhile, twelve (12) teams from the towns of Brooke’s Point, Narra, and Aborlan participated in the Palawan Inter-Municipality Football League 2023. This league features three categories: Boys Under 13; Men’s Under 17, and Men’s Open Category (Inter-Municipality).

Seventy (70) players from the southern municipalities of Palawan, excluding Balabac, took part in the Palawan Table Tennis Junior Program. The tournament comprises various categories such as Boy’s Singles 11 & under; Girl’s Singles 11 & under; Boy’s Singles 13 & under; Girl’s Singles 13 & under; Boy’s Singles 15 & under; Girl’s Singles 15 & under; Boy’s Singles 17 & under, and Girl’s Singles 17 & under.

The Office of the Governor- Provincial Sports Division partnered with LGU- Aborlan, LGU- Sofronio Española, WPU- Aborlan, and the Department of Education (DepEd) Palawan to organize these events. The aim is not only to invigorate the local sporting scene but also to fine-tune the abilities of Palaweño athletes, potentially propelling them to represent Palawan in national competitions or even on international platforms.

Notable attendees at the opening program for the Palawan Inter-Municipality Football League 2023 and Palawan Sepak Takraw Invitational Tournament included Aborlan Vice Mayor Marvin Madeja, along with several members of the Aborlan Sangguniang Bayan, and Atty.
