Palawan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) President Jeffrey Armedilla stated that employers must pay their workers’ 13th month pay this December following the announcement of Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Thursday.
“Para naman maging saya ang Pasko kahit nasa pandemya tayo,” Armedilla stated in an interview.
Armedilla said that business establishments are mandated by the law to provide the 13th month pay to employees as part of their compensation, even during a pandemic. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will issue out an official order on this on Friday, October 16.
Meanwhile, DOLE has yet to approve subsidies for small and medium businesses that are struggling due to the pandemic. Bello stated that a request for financial assistance from the Department of Finance has been made to help small and micro enterprises.
