No new rotation and resupply (Rore) missions have taken place at the naval outpost in Ayungin (Second Thomas) Shoal in the West Philippine Sea since a violent incident on June 17, a navy official confirmed on Tuesday.
Despite this, Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, assured that the troops aboard the BRP Sierra Madre have sufficient supplies.
“Not yet, the last activity was the evacuation,” Trinidad stated, referring to the July 7 medical evacuation of a navy personnel. When asked about recent Rore missions, he confirmed, “The last Rore was June 17.”
The June 17 event involved the most aggressive actions yet by the China Coast Guard (CCG), resulting in what the Philippine military has described as “looting” of disassembled high-powered guns from the BRP Sierra Madre and causing serious injury to a navy personnel, including the amputation of a thumb.
