Western Command troops clashed with five communist terrorists while conducting security operation in connection with the assistance provided to the DENR Palawan in Barangay Calasaguen, Brooke’s Point, Palawan at around 10:20 this morning, September 8.

According to the Western Command, troops under 24MC, MBLT4 immediately engaged the communist terrorists that lasted in about 10 minutes prompting the rebels to withdraw towards different directions.

One of the government troops was wounded, but is now in stable condition while undetermined casualty was reported among the rebels.

More troops were sent to the area to pursue the communist terrorists.

WESCOM report added that no less than the Brooke’s Point Mayor Mary Jean D. Feliciano requested the Commanding Officer of MBLT4 to assist the DENR personnel in response to the rampant illegal logging in the area. It was unfortunate, however, that the Communist Terrorists have chosen to disrupt the enforcement of environmental laws by government authorities.

“Team WESCOM is always ready to respond and provide necessary assistance to anyone in times of need. We are committed to ensure the safety and security of everyone in our Area of Responsibility,” WESCOM statement stated.
