Hundreds of student-athletes from primary and secondary schools, including coaches, representatives and delegates from district schools all around Narra town converged today, September 19, at the Narra Sports Complex to officially start the Palarong Pambayan 2019.
An opening parade headed by school heads and officials was commenced early today at the streets of the town, displaying the colorful uniforms of clustered teams of student athletes coming from northern and southern schools.
Lualhati Gonzales, District Supervisor of Narra del Sur, officially welcomed the athletes, delegates, guests, parents, coaches and legislative officials of the Sangguniang Bayan of Narra.
Gonzales said that Palarong Pambayan teaches young aspring athletes to embody sportsmanship and camaraderie as values in promoting the spirit of unity and cooperation among schools and educational institutions all over the town.
“Palarong Pambayan or Municipal Meet signifies sports whether individual or team competitions. It showcases different values embodied by the athletes since they are the core components of this sports event,” Gonzales said.
Competing in different sports disciplines are Zone I-IV categorized by Narra del Sur and Narra del Sur.
Meanwhile, Narra legislator Ceferino Genovea informed that the local legislative council of the town is formulating a resolution to request a financial aid to Senator Manny Pacquiao for the construction of additional sports facilities such as swimming pool and training center allocated for the benefit of young Narranian athletes in the municipality.
“Magrerequest tayo kay Sen. Manny Pacquiao na sana matulungan niya tayo na magkaroon ng budget para sa construction ng swimming pool sa mga athlete natin at rehabilitation ng ating sports complex,” Genovea said.
The Palarong Pambayan 2019 is a sports event divided into primary and secondary levels, and is competed by representatives from all the schools situated in the 23 barangays of Narra.
Entitled winners for this year’s Palarong Pambansa will compete for the upcoming Provincial Meet 2019 in Bataraza.
