Palawan has once again earned global recognition, securing the 15th spot in Travel + Leisure’s prestigious “25 Best Snorkeling Spots Around the World,” a list released on May 2, 2025. The province’s inclusion underscores its appeal as a top destination for underwater exploration, thanks to its rich marine biodiversity and pristine waters.
Travel + Leisure’s ranking highlights Palawan’s diverse ecosystems, which attract snorkelers from around the world. Among the most notable locations featured are the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tubbataha Reef Natural Park in Cagayancillo, the islands of Honda Bay in Puerto Princesa, and the private resort at NoaNoa Island in Taytay. Each location is renowned for its remarkable marine life, making Palawan a snorkeling haven.
“The waters surrounding over 7,600 islands in the Philippines make up a diverse ecosystem filled with breathtaking wildlife. The stunning region of Palawan has no shortage of snorkeling opportunities, including Tubbataha Reef Natural Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site) and the islands and islets of Honda Bay,” the article states.
The recognition comes as a boost to the Philippine tourism industry, which has long touted Palawan for its natural beauty and unparalleled marine environments. Tubbataha Reef, in particular, is often regarded as one of the most extraordinary dive spots in the world, attracting both seasoned divers and snorkelers eager to witness its vibrant coral gardens and abundant marine life.
Despite fierce competition from other global destinations, such as the Florida Keys in the United States, which topped the list, and Ilha Grande in Brazil, ranked second, Palawan’s recognition cements its position as a prime destination for eco-tourism and underwater exploration.
