Preparations are now underway for the annual Baragatan sa Palawan Festival, which will officially begin on June 6 with a soft opening at the provincial capitol grounds. This year’s festivities will include the Caraenan food fair and various trade exhibitions surrounding the Capitol.

According to Palawan Culture and Arts Chief Sammy Magbanua, the overall program will be similar to last year, with a few new additions based on public demand. The highlight of the changes will be the inclusion of volleyball and chess competitions, responding to requests from festivalgoers.

While there were initial suggestions to hold some festival events in the municipalities, the local governments themselves opted to have everything centralized at the capitol. “The municipalities preferred to travel to the Capitol for the celebration,” Magbanua explained.

The Grand Opening of the festival will be held on June 13 and is expected to run through the final week of the month. As in previous years, the festival will feature performances by popular bands and celebrities, with ongoing negotiations involving several sponsors.
