The provincial government urged farmers, fisherfolk and association in Palawan to avail the government’s lending for agriculture and fishery sector, the Agricultural Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ACEF) in a bid to contribute to the upliftment of the socio-economic conditions of the people belonging to the sector.

Board Member Angela Sabando, who was the former town mayor of Roxas, Palawan sponsored the Sangguniang Panlalawigan resolution endorsing and supporting ACEF, especially that Palawan is also predominantly an agricultural province.

ACEF is a program through Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), a government-owned and controlled financial institution. It covers agrifishery projects such as purchase of farm inputs, equiptment or farm improvement, acquisition or establishment of agri-based production and processing machineries, equiptment and facilities, relending to farmers and fisherfolk.

The LBP offers up to P1 million loan for individual farmer or fisherman, and up to P5 million for association and coop.

The provincial government believed that by helping small farmers and fisherfolk acquire equipment, machineries, and facilities or improve their existing traditional practices by allowing them to borrow funds will somehow help uplift their living conditions.

“Ito ay isang programa na nagpapalitan ng pondo sa mga maliliit na magsasaka at mangingisda, agricultural cooperatives at association at mga micro and small enterprises na ang layunin ay mapalago ang kanilang produkto,” an statement from the Provincial Government of Palawan said.

Prior to the passage of the provincial board resolution, LBP Account Officers Job Peneyra and Belis Salas appeared during the recent session for the purposes of presenting the ACEF Lending Program.
