Twenty-nine (29) beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) have come together to bring life and vibrancy to the Salvacion Elementary School in Busuanga, Palawan. Their joint efforts have resulted in the establishment of a flourishing Gulayan sa Paaralan, a school garden that not only enhances the overall aesthetic of the campus but also serves as a source of additional income and fresh produce for students, their families, and school staff.

The initiative, spearheaded by Sofia D. Villareal, the Public Schools District Supervisor of Busuanga, stands as a shining example of the transformative power of community engagement. The beneficiaries’ unwavering commitment to maintaining and beautifying the school garden through the “Gulayan sa Paaralan” initiative is truly commendable. Their tireless efforts, perseverance, and passion have turned the once barren grounds into a greener and more vibrant place for all.

The project holds even more significance as it offers valuable learning opportunities for the students. By actively participating in the care and cultivation of the garden, students gain hands-on experience in agriculture and environmental stewardship. They learn the importance of sustainability, organic farming, and the value of growing their food, which nurtures a deeper connection with nature and fosters an appreciation for healthy living.

Furthermore, the Gulayan sa Paaralan initiative is not just about creating a beautiful and bountiful space; it has also become a catalyst for strengthening community bonds.

Mark F. Fuerza, the Municipal Link of Busuanga, Palawan, shares that the collaborative efforts of the beneficiaries have inspired others to join in community activities.

Witnessing the positive impact of their actions has motivated more individuals to engage in similar initiatives that benefit the entire community.

Beyond the school’s boundaries, the project also has a positive impact on the beneficiaries’ lives outside the campus. The knowledge and experience gained from tending to the garden have encouraged many of them to initiate backyard gardening at home.

This newfound passion for gardening not only supports their daily food needs but also promotes self-sufficiency and resilience, especially in times of economic uncertainty.

As the project continues to thrive and inspire, the teaching staff and Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) officers remain wholeheartedly committed to supporting and encouraging the efforts of the 4Ps parents.
