In a mission to enhance bilateral defense ties, Vice Admiral Karl Thomas, the Commander of the United States Navy’s Seventh Fleet, led a high-level delegation on a courtesy visit to the Provincial Government of Palawan on Tuesday, August 8. This visit underscores the commitment to fortify the existing partnership between the US Navy and the province of Palawan.

During the visit, Thomas engaged in constructive discussions with local officials and representatives, delving into a range of issues that will be presented to the United States – Philippines Mutual Defense Board and Security Engagement Board. The talks included strategic matters aimed at bolstering mutual defense cooperation and security alliances between the United States and the Philippines.

Highlighting the significance of open channels of communication with allies and partners, Vice Adm. Thomas emphasized, “Having open lines of communication with our partners and allies is vital to our lasting commitments and strong presence in the region.” The commander expressed optimism about the prospect of continued collaboration with Puerto Princesa City and Palawan, focusing on driving economic growth and logistics developments.

Palawan Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates, though absent from the meeting, was well-represented by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Joshua Bolusa and Provincial Tourism Promotions and Development Officer Maribel Buñi. Also present was Niño Estoya, Acting Director of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development.

The visit culminated in a renewed commitment to further strengthen the alliance between the United States Navy and Palawan, with a shared vision of advancing regional stability and security. As both parties continue to collaborate, the visit sets the stage for a more robust defense partnership, promoting economic prosperity and strategic cooperation for the benefit of both nations.
