The city government of Puerto Princesa through the City Health Office (CHO) spearheaded a two-day training on Basic Life Support to 38 city government employees in an effort to increase the number of first responders in the city, specifically in terms of health emergency.

The activity was conducted at Hue Hotel on April 21-22, 2026 which the CHO said will help capacitate the participants in performing immediate response in incidents that require life-saving interventions such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and other situations.

Last year, the city government through the CHO and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) initiated a similar training held at Ala Amid in Barangay San Manuel with City government employees as participants/ trainees.

“Tinalakay sa pagsasanay ang limang Emergency Action Principles: Survey the Scene, Activate Medical Assistance, Initial Assessment, Secondary Assessment, at Referral for further evaluation and management.

Nurse VI Romwell Raymundo, Division Chief of the CHO’s Nursing and Midwifery, emphasized the importance of performing BLS in actual emergency situations. He said that Republic Act 10861 or Basic Life Support in Schols Act and other Department of Health (DOH) issuances and has set the BLS as important training for health workers and emergency responders.

BLS is essential for saving lives by providing immediate care to victims of cardiac arrest or breathing emergencies before professional help arrives. It also trains individuals to deliver effective chest compressions, provide rescue breaths, and use an AED.
