In an effort to bolster agricultural productivity and support local farmers, the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Palawan has accomplished a significant milestone by providing artificial breeding services to a staggering 4,331 water buffalo and cows.

These animals were sourced from various towns, including Roxas, El Nido, Coron, San Vicente, Aborlan, Dumaran, and Brooke’s Point, over the past seven months.

Under the leadership of Dr. Darius P. Mangcucang, the Livestock Production program within the PVO spearheaded this initiative, which aimed to enhance the quality of livestock in the province and assist Palawan’s farming community.

One of the central components of this program is artificial insemination (AI), which was extended to 2,033 water buffaloes and 2,298 cattle belonging to 1,025 Palawan families.

The breeding process involved the use of semen from Bulgarian Murrah Buffalo and Indian Buffalo for water buffaloes, while Brahman cattle, renowned for their high milk production, were selected for cattle breeding.

Additionally, the PVO provided complimentary services such as oral deworming, vitamin supplementation, and extensive pregnancy diagnosis.

The Provincial Government is inclined to support Palawan’s farmers and further improve the quality of livestock in the region. As a result, initiatives like the Artificial Breeding Program are continuously being implemented to achieve these goals.

Farmers who have had their animals serviced by the PVO are experiencing substantial cost savings. They no longer need to spend on medicines, vitamins, and consultations for their livestock due to the program’s comprehensive services.

Moreover, similar programs are ongoing in various municipalities across the province, ensuring that more Palawan farmers benefit from these initiatives.
The overall objective is to uplift the livelihoods of farmers and elevate the quality of livestock in the region, ultimately contributing to the agricultural sustainability of Palawan.
