AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr. personally embarked on a resupply mission to BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal on Sunday, December 10.
General Brawner conveyed President Ferdinand R Marcos Jr’s appreciation and holiday greetings to the dedicated troops stationed aboard the vessel.
His presence signifies the first sitting AFP Chief of Staff to set foot on the ship. Despite the ongoing challenges posed by the China Coast Guard and maritime militia, General Brawner, alongside Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos and AFP personnel, successfully completed the mission aboard Unaiza May 1.
Following an early “noche buena” celebration with the troops, General Brawner emphasized the crucial role of BRP Sierra Madre in upholding the country’s presence and jurisdiction in the maritime zone.
He expressed gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the troops, highlighting the Filipino spirit in asserting rights under international law.
“We value your service and sacrifice which demonstrates the Filipino’s indomitable spirit in asserting our rights and performing our obligations under international law,” said General Brawner. He reassured the troops, stating, “Your President is with you, I am with you, the whole Filipino nation is with you.”
