The municipality of Narra has officially broken ground on a P52-million modern slaughterhouse expected to improve food safety, reduce meat transport time, and benefit thousands of local residents involved in hog raising and meat processing.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on May 14, marked the start of construction for the Narra AA Slaughterhouse, a facility designed to meet the stringent standards of the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP). The event was led by Narra Mayor Gerandy Danao, alongside officials from PRDP Regional and Provincial Project Coordination Offices, including Deputy Project Director Vener Dilig and Chief of Staff Atty. Adele Garcia.

Once completed, the facility is anticipated to streamline the handling of meat from slaughter to market, a move seen as essential in maintaining the freshness, safety, and traceability of meat products sold in the municipality. It is also expected to help local producers comply with food safety standards and meet growing market demands, both locally and beyond.

The Narra AA Slaughterhouse is projected to benefit over 12,000 residents whose livelihoods are directly or indirectly tied to swine production — from backyard farmers to meat vendors.

Following the ceremonial ground breaking, a pre-construction conference was held to orient the LGU and contractor on the technical requirements and implementation procedures under PRDP. The collaboration is part of a broader effort to professionalize agricultural infrastructure in Palawan while aligning with national goals on food security and rural development.

The project signals not only progress in Narra’s agricultural landscape but also a commitment to safer food systems for its communities.
