In commemoration of the National Disaster Resilience Month this July, the Palawan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office (PDRRMO) of the provincial government successfully hosted the 4th Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Caravan held yesterday, July 5, which aims to promote disaster resilience and preparedness among local communities.
The event brought together organizations under the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), MDRRMOs and other DRRM-related organizations, to raise awareness and enhance disaster response capacities in Palawan.
The DRRM Caravan featured a series of activities designed to engage residents in disaster risk reduction efforts. The event kick-started with a grand parade held at the Go Hotel, Barangay San Manuel and commenced into the City Baywalk area, showcasing at least 80 rescue vehicles and equipment of PDRRMC.
After the parade, a short program was held at the City Baywalk where experts and resource persons shared their knowledge and experiences, emphasizing the importance of proactive disaster management and preparedness in the face of natural and man-made disasters.
Jerry Alili, PDDRM Officer, expressed his gratitude for the continuous support of the Palawan Provincial Government and highlighted the critical role of preparedness in saving lives and minimizing the impact of disasters.
“We want to show na ito na ang mga equipments na napuntahan ng ating mga taxes, ito ay ginagamit upang makapaglingkod sa mga Palaweño sa panahon ng mga kalamidad. Patunay na nakatuon ang pamahalaan sa mga proyekto na pumipigil sa mga sitwasyon na maaaring umagaw sa patuloy na development at agenda ng pamahalaan,” Alili said.
After the awarding of Certificates of Appreciation to all the attending agencies, the blessing of all the response vehicles and equipment was conducted, led by Rev. Fr. Ralph John Javarez and Rev. Fr. Arnold Mendaro.
